Originally built in 1883 by R.J. and Mary Jane Welty, the hotel was rebuilt in 1891 after a fire destroyed the original structure. The Welty family operated the hotel for over 30 years, and it later served as an apartment house under owner Grace LeClare. In 1960, local historian Horace Parker and his wife Leverne purchased the hotel, preserving its historical significance until 2014. Today, The Hotel Temecula showcases museum-quality artifacts that trace the history of Temecula, offering guests an immersive experience of the Old West. The hotel has also served as the Machado General Store, the local schoolhouse, and even the town hall. From 1895 to 1915, it housed the Temecula Post Office.
