Discover more about Olivas Adobe Historic Park

Olivas Adobe Historic Park offers a captivating glimpse into California's Rancho era. Built in 1847 by Don Raymundo Olivas, the two-story Monterey-style adobe home was once the heart of Rancho San Miguel and a social hub in the Santa Clara River Valley. Don Raymundo Olivas, a prominent figure in early Ventura, received the land grant from Mexican Governor Juan Alvarado in recognition of his service to the state. He and his wife, Teodora Lopez, raised their impressive family of 21 children within the walls of this grand adobe. The home remained in the Olivas family until 1971 when it was donated to the City of Ventura. The meticulously restored adobe features period furnishings, a family chapel, and displays of Olivas family photographs, offering visitors an immersive experience of 19th-century Rancho life. The grounds boast vibrant gardens, including a rose garden, herb garden, and a grape arbor dating back to the Mission period. Today, Olivas Adobe Historic Park hosts seasonal events, educational programs, and community gatherings. Costumed docent-led tours are available on Sundays, providing historical context and engaging stories about the Olivas family and their contributions to the region.
