Marina Green: San Francisco's Waterfront Playground

Marina Green is a beloved San Francisco park, stretching along the waterfront and providing breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and Angel Island. Originally a tidal marsh, the area was dramatically transformed after the 1906 earthquake when debris from the city was used as landfill. For a short time, the Marina Green served as Montgomery Airfield, the first terminus of the United States Post Office Department Transcontinental Air Mail Service. The adjacent marinas are home to the St. Francis Yacht Club and the Golden Gate Yacht Club. Marina Green hosts numerous community events, including races and festivals.
