Discover more about Wilton Historic District

The Wilton Historic District, located in the Windsor Square neighborhood of Los Angeles, is a preserved residential area that transports visitors to the early 20th century. Established between 1907 and 1925, with a couple of additions in the 1930s, the district is home to 63 single-family residences showcasing Craftsman and Colonial Revival architectural styles. Originally planned as an exclusive enclave for upper-middle-class families, the district was situated on the northwestern boundary of Los Angeles. The area was once part of Plummer Square, used by the Plummer family for vegetable gardens and raising chickens for their downtown restaurant. The district is characterized by its architectural homogeneity and the integrity of its homes. The Craftsman homes feature intricate woodwork, exposed rafters, and inviting front porches. Colonial Revival homes, popular in the 1920s, showcase symmetrical facades, classical columns, and refined ornamentation. The unusual street configuration, developed to join existing alignments, adds to the area's charm. Several homes are designated as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuments. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, becoming the third area in Los Angeles to receive this honor.
