Originally named the John Thomann Winery and Distillery, it later became Sutter Home after being acquired by the Leuenberger family. The Trinchero family purchased the winery in 1947 and has been family-owned ever since.During Prohibition, like many Napa Valley wineries, Sutter Home ceased operations, but the Trinchero family revitalized it in the late 1940s. The winery is renowned for the accidental creation of White Zinfandel in 1972, a wine that catapulted Sutter Home to national recognition and introduced many Americans to wine. Today, Sutter Home is part of Trinchero Family Estates, the largest family-owned winery in Napa Valley.Visitors to Sutter Home can explore the beautiful grounds, including the historic Victorian mansion and rose gardens. The tasting room offers a variety of wines, from traditional varietals to sweeter options, ensuring there's something for every palate.
