Mrs. Bun Roeung's Ancient House, located in Wat Kor village, is one of the few remaining traditional Khmer houses in the area, offering a glimpse into Cambodia's past. Built in 1920 by Lok Oknha NOU Pinet Phoeung, a lawyer and commander, the house has been meticulously maintained through three generations. The house is built in the traditional Khmer style, elevated on stilts to protect it from floods and pests. The wide verandah wraps around the house, creating inviting spaces for relaxation. The surrounding gardens, filled with orchids and palm trees, add to the charm and transport visitors to a simpler time. Inside, the house is divided into three sections. The front and side verandahs offer open spaces, while the middle section features a spacious living room. At the rear, you'll find bedrooms and a kitchen. The house is constructed with rare hardwoods, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. The walls are made of woven bamboo and plastered, while the 36 pillars are made of sturdy Phcheuk wood. The roof is tiled with antique Naga-scale-shaped tiles. During the Khmer Rouge regime, the house was used as a rice threshing and equipment storage area, and as a communal kitchen, which damaged the rear of the house. Today, the house is open to visitors, and the owner offers tours in French and English. The rear of the house has been converted into unique homestay accommodation.
