Phnom Santuk, rising 207 meters above the surrounding plains of Kampong Thom province, is considered the most sacred mountain in the region. For centuries, it has served as a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists and a place of cultural and natural importance. The mountain's history stretches back before the Angkorian era, with legends suggesting its significance dates back to the Hindu period. In 1496, King Thommo Reachea I moved Buddha relics to a village near the mountain.Visitors can ascend Phnom Santuk via a staircase of 809 steps adorned with colorful statues or a 2.5km paved road. At the summit, a white-walled temple houses numerous shrines and deities, including impressive reclining Buddhas carved into the rock. The site is home to monks and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the Tonle Sap River valley.Phnom Santuk offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
