The temple's history is intertwined with the development of Bokor Hill Station, a French colonial resort established in the 1920s. King Monivong constructed the temple in 1924 so that he could worship and pray.The name “Wat Sampov Pram” comes from a cluster of distinctive rock formations on the temple grounds that resemble five sailing boats. Local legend connects these rocks to the tale of Prince Preah Thong and Princess Neang Neak. According to the story, the Dragon King gifted the couple five boats filled with treasures and servants, which eventually landed at the temple site. Prince Preah Thong then chose this location to establish his kingdom. The rocks are believed to be the remains of these boats, petrified over time.Visitors can explore the temple complex, adorned with intricate carvings and colorful paintings showcasing Khmer architectural beauty. The temple provides a tranquil environment for prayer, meditation, and reflection. The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of Kampot town, the surrounding countryside, and Bokor Mountain.
