Getting There

  • Motorbike/Tuk-Tuk

    From Banlung city center, the most common way to reach Cha Ong Waterfall is by motorbike or tuk-tuk. Head east on National Road 78, then turn left onto the road leading to the waterfall. The ride is approximately 10.5 km and takes you through small villages and past rubber and cashew forests. A tuk-tuk can be hired from the large circle near the market for around $10-$15, but make sure to negotiate the price beforehand. Alternatively, rent a motorbike for the day for around $5-$10 and enjoy the scenic ride at your own pace. Parking is available near the entrance of the waterfall. Be prepared for a bumpy ride on dirt roads for the last few kilometers.

    If driving from Ratanakiri provincial town, head east on National Road 78 towards Banlung. After approximately 10 kilometers, turn left onto the road heading towards Cha Ong Waterfall. Follow the signs and continue for about 5 kilometers until you reach the entrance of the waterfall area. Parking is available near the entrance, but be prepared for a small parking fee.

Located approximately 2 kilometers west of Banlung in Cha Ong village, the waterfall originates from Phnom Svay Mountain, with water flowing along a stream before cascading down 25 meters. This impressive drop makes it one of the tallest waterfalls in the province, especially during the rainy season. The waterfall was named by the Kreung ethnic minority, who still reside in the nearby Ka Chanh village. Visitors can follow a path along the mountainside to access a rock cave behind the cascading water. Inside this cave, you can relax and enjoy stunning views of the waterfall and the surrounding lush forest. Couples often leave inscriptions on the cave walls as a sign of love and good luck.
