In 1496, King Thommo Reachea I is said to have moved Buddha relics to a village near the mountain. Wat Phnom Santuk, one of Cambodia's oldest temples, was constructed in the 7th century, marking the mountain as a prominent center for Khmer culture and religion.Today, Phnom Santuk is a popular pilgrimage site adorned with a mix of old and new Buddhist monuments. Visitors can explore the main white-walled pagoda, Prasat Tuch (a pyramid-shaped structure with intricate sandstone carvings), and several reclining Buddhas, some carved into the living rock. The mountain offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including rice fields and the Tonle Sap River.
