Phnom Bayang Temple, or Prasat Phnom Bayang, is a historical site in Por Rorng village, Preah Bat Choan Chum commune, Kirivong district, approximately 43 kilometers south of Takeo and 121 kilometers south of Phnom Penh. This ancient Hindu temple, built during the reign of King Pavavarman II between 615 and 635 AD, stands as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Khmer architecture and spirituality.Originally a victory monument of the Water Chenla kingdom over Funan, the temple comprises a main sanctuary and four smaller temples: Preah Kor, North Kanang, East Kanang, and Kampoul Kanang. The temple is constructed primarily of brick and laterite. Climbing the 390 steps to the top of Phnom Bayang offers not only a physical journey but also a passage through centuries of history.Though the temple is not as grand as the sights around Siem Reap, its architecture is clearly related. The temple has a size of 13m length, 9m width and a height of 12m. From the peak, visitors can enjoy views of the Mekong River Delta to the east and the forested hills to the west.
