Discover more about Limbe Wildlife Centre

Nestled in the coastal city of Limbe, the Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) stands as a beacon for wildlife conservation in Cameroon. Established in 1993 as a collaboration between the Cameroonian government and the Pandrillus Foundation, the center rescues, rehabilitates, and provides a second chance for orphaned, injured, and abused wild animals. The LWC is home to over 250 animals, representing 15 primate species native to Cameroon, including gorillas, chimpanzees, drills, and mandrills. Many of these animals have been rescued from the illegal bushmeat and wildlife trades, arriving as tiny orphans after their mothers were killed. The center also cares for other species, such as small carnivores, duikers, birds, and reptiles, with the goal of releasing them back into the wild whenever possible. More than just a sanctuary, the LWC actively contributes to conservation efforts by implementing national wildlife protection laws and offering a refuge for animals seized by law enforcement. The center also plays a vital role in educating the public, particularly local communities, about the importance of protecting Cameroon's natural heritage. Through guided tours, educational programs, and community outreach, the LWC strives to inspire a new generation of conservationists and bridge the gap between animal welfare and conservation. Visitors to the LWC can observe the rescued animals living in healthy, social groups within enriched environments. The center provides a unique opportunity to learn about the challenges these animals face in the wild and the ongoing efforts to protect them.
