Discover more about Musée des civilisations de Dschang

The Musée des Civilisations de Dschang, inaugurated in 2010 and officially created in 2011, serves as a vital center for understanding Cameroon's diverse cultural landscape. Situated on the verdant grounds of Lake Dschang, the museum is a collaborative effort between the cities of Dschang and Nantes, with significant involvement from the Cameroonian diaspora. The museum's architecture, designed by Sylvain Djache Nzefa, incorporates strong regional symbols such as the spider, buffalo, and elephant. These symbols, along with welcoming messages in various Cameroonian languages, reflect the museum's mission to promote intercultural dialogue and celebrate the socio-cultural authenticity of Cameroon's people. Inside, visitors can explore a collection of over 500 objects, informative panels, and audiovisual displays that narrate Cameroon's history from prehistoric times to the present day. The exhibits are organized into five thematic areas: the history of Cameroon, the lords of the forest, water peoples, North Cameroon, and the Grassfields chieftaincies. These exhibits showcase the daily lives, traditions, and artistry of Cameroonian artisans, highlighting the cultural significance of craftsmanship. The museum also hosts educational programs and guided tours to provide deeper historical context.
