Founded in 1998 and officially opened in 2008 by Her Majesty Queen Nana Agnes Sunjio, the museum embodies the richness and diversity of Cameroonian culture. More than just a repository of art objects, it serves as a space for education and inspiration, highlighting the art, music, and systems of Cameroon.The museum's collection comprises over 2,070 works of art, primarily from the Fang Beti and Grassfields ethnic groups. Visitors can explore a variety of objects, including statues, masks, vessels, pipes, musical instruments, paintings, emblems, architectural elements, textiles, ceremonial and ritual objects, royal furniture, and royal treasures. The museum also features prehistoric lithic artifacts collected in the Western Region of Cameroon.Exhibitions at the Blackitude Museum delve into various themes, such as the traditional art of Cameroon, socio-religious and politico-economic institutions, and traditional rites. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events, providing a platform for modern African artists and promoting a deeper understanding of African heritage.
