During the struggle for independence in the 1950s and 60s, the falls were a site of executions, where nationalists were thrown into the abyss. Legend has it that Jacob Fossi, a prisoner, bravely clung to his executioner and jumped into the falls, ending the executions at this site.Today, Chutes de la Métché is a place of pilgrimage and purification. Visitors come to connect with the past, honor the fallen, and participate in traditional ceremonies. The site is adorned with offerings like salt, coins, and palm oil, reflecting its spiritual importance to the local communities. The falls offer a unique blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and cultural richness, making it a must-see destination in Cameroon.

Getting There
Walking
From the center of Bafoussam, head towards the main road (N6) leading out of town. A good starting point is the Bafoussam Market. Walk south on Avenue des Martyrs until you reach N6. Turn left onto N6 and walk for about 2 kilometers. Look for signs pointing towards Chutes de la Métché. After about 2km on N6, you'll see a path on your right that leads to the falls. Follow this path for approximately 500 meters to reach the entrance. Be prepared for a walk of roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Public Transport
From Bafoussam, take a local bus or shared taxi heading towards Mbouda. Inform the driver that you want to stop at Chutes de la Métché. The fare typically ranges from 500 to 1000 CFA francs. The journey takes about 20-30 minutes. From the drop-off point, walk a short distance to the waterfalls.
Motorcycle Taxi (Benskin)
Find a 'Benskin' (motorcycle taxi) stand in Bafoussam. Tell the driver you want to go to Chutes de la Métché. The ride typically costs around 1000 CFA. The driver will take you to the nearest point on N6, from where you will have to walk the remaining distance. Ask the driver to drop you off where the path to the waterfalls begins, about 2 kilometers from the city center. Follow the path for another 500 meters to reach the destination.
