The falls are located near Nkongsamba and are formed by the Nkam River. The name Ekom Nkam comes from the words 'Ekom,' the village where the falls are located, and 'Nkam,' the river's name. The waterfalls cascade down from a height of 80 meters (262 feet), surrounded by dense, emerald-green forest. The site features two main falls: a 'male' fall fed continuously by the Nkam River and a 'female' fall fed by the Oham River, which flows only during the rainy season. The best time to visit is during the rainy season (March to October) to see both falls. The Ekom Nkam Waterfalls gained international fame after appearing in the 1984 film 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes'. The area around the falls is rich in flora and fauna, including chimpanzees, monkeys, and diverse bird species. The Mbô people constitute the main ethnic group of the locality, with cultural practices such as Mengoum (rite of veneration for the dead).
