Located near Nkongsamba, these twin falls cascade down approximately 80 meters (262 feet) into a lush, evergreen deciduous forest. The name 'Ekom Nkam' originates from the village of Ekom, where the falls are located, and the Nkam River, the source of the falls.The waterfalls consist of two main cascades: a 'male' fall, which is fed continuously by the Nkam River throughout the year, and a 'female' fall, which flows only during the rainy season. This seasonal variation adds to the dynamic beauty of the site. In the rainy season, the falls are more powerful, creating a thunderous roar and a misty atmosphere. The falls have an 80 m high and 40 m deep main resource.Ekom Nkam Waterfalls gained international recognition when scenes from the 1984 film 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes' were filmed here. Today, the falls are a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy scenic hiking trails, swim in the natural pool at the base of the falls during the dry season, and explore the diverse flora and fauna of the surrounding rainforest. Facilities such as well-appointed staircases with guardrails and 'boukarous' (small shelters) have been added to facilitate access. The surrounding forest is home to chimpanzees, monkeys, porcupines, and various fish species in the rivers.
