Discover more about Limbe Wildlife Centre

Located in the coastal city of Limbe, the Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a vital sanctuary for wildlife in Cameroon. Founded in 1993 as a collaboration between the Cameroonian government and the Pandrillus Foundation, the center rescues, rehabilitates, and provides conservation education. The LWC focuses on animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, many of whom arrive as orphaned infants after their mothers were killed for bushmeat. The center provides care for these animals, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into the wild whenever possible. When release isn't feasible, the LWC offers a safe and secure home for these creatures. The center is home to 15 primate species native to Cameroon, including gorillas, chimpanzees, drills, mandrills, baboons, mangabeys, and guenons. The LWC also cares for other animals like small carnivores, duikers, birds, and reptiles. With 16 gorillas, including the only known Cross River gorilla in captivity, the LWC has Africa's best record for gorilla rehabilitation and care.Visitors to the LWC can observe these animals in healthy, social groups within enriched environments. Knowledgeable staff members are available to share insights about the animals and the challenges they face in the wild. The LWC also hosts educational programs and workshops to promote awareness about wildlife conservation.
