Taxi
From Douala International Airport (DLA), take a taxi to Buea, the main town at the foot of Mount Cameroon and the starting point for most treks. The taxi ride is approximately 70 km and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around 20,000-30,000 XAF for the taxi fare.
Public Transport
Alternatively, from Douala, you can take a bus or shared taxi to Buea. Buses are a cheaper option, costing around 3,000-5,000 XAF, but they can be less comfortable and take longer. Shared taxis offer a middle ground in terms of cost and comfort, with fares around 5,000-8,000 XAF. Once in Buea, you can arrange for a guide and porters for your Mount Cameroon trek.
Hiking
The final approach to the summit involves a challenging hike from Buea, typically lasting 2-3 days. The most popular route is the Guinness Trail, which starts near Buea and ascends directly to the summit. Along the way, you'll pass through farmland, forest, and volcanic landscapes. Guides and porters are mandatory and can be hired in Buea. Expect to pay around 120,000 CFA per person for a two-day trip, including guide and permit fees.
