The mountain is part of the Cameroon Volcanic Line, characterized by over 100 cinder cones and frequent volcanic activity; the most recent eruption occurred in 2012.Hiking Mount Cameroon is a popular activity, with trails traversing diverse landscapes from tropical rainforests to montane forests and finally, a barren volcanic summit. The most popular route, the Guinness Trail, is known for its steep, direct ascent. Treks typically last two to three days, requiring a good level of physical fitness. Along the way, hikers can witness the effects of past eruptions, including lava flows and volcanic craters.At higher elevations, the environment transitions to volcanic landscapes with black sand and craters.
