History of South-West Region

The South-West Region of Cameroon has a rich history of early human settlements, with the Bakweri, Bakossi, and Balong people among the indigenous groups. These groups established intricate kingdoms and societies long before European contact. The Bakweri people, for instance, are known for their chieftaincy system and the sacred Mount Cameroon, which they call 'Mongo ma Ndemi'.
