Car
From the main entrance of Waza National Park, take the D9 road heading east toward the town of Waza. Continue on this route for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the junction near the town of Moutourwa. At the junction, take the turn towards Kousséri, which is marked on road signs. After about 50 kilometers on this road, you will arrive in Kousséri. The total travel time is around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel and check the condition of the road, especially during the rainy season.
Public Transportation
From Waza National Park, you can take a taxi-brousse (shared taxi) to Kousséri. Head to the nearest taxi-brousse station in Waza, where you will find vehicles heading towards Kousséri. The fare is approximately 2,000 FCFA (around $3.50). The journey typically takes about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the number of stops and road conditions. Make sure to leave early in the day, as public transport schedules can be unpredictable.
Combination of Taxi and Motorcycle Taxi
If you prefer a more flexible option, you can take a taxi from Waza National Park to Moutourwa, which is about a 30-minute drive. The fare is around 3,000 FCFA (approximately $5). Once in Moutourwa, hire a motorcycle taxi to Kousséri for about 1,500 FCFA (around $2.50). The motorcycle ride will take around 30 to 40 minutes. This option is ideal for those who want to experience local transportation and see the countryside.
