Mount Oku, rising to 3,011 meters (9,879 ft), is the largest volcano in the Oku Massif, within Cameroon's Western High Plateau. As the second-highest mountain in mainland Central Africa, it presents a unique landscape shaped by volcanic activity and rich biodiversity. The mountain is a stratovolcano, characterized by steep slopes formed over time by layers of lava and volcanic ash. A large caldera cuts through the summit, evidence of its dynamic geological past. The mountain's slopes are covered by the Kilum-Ijim Forest, the largest remaining patch of montane forest in West Africa. Lake Oku, a crater lake nestled on the mountain at 2,227 meters (7,306 ft), adds to the area's mystique. Surrounded by cloud forest, the lake is the subject of many local myths and is the only known habitat of the Lake Oku Clawed Frog, a critically endangered amphibian.
