The cape itself is a remarkable red sandstone cliff, rising 33.5 meters (110 feet) above the Gulf of St. Lawrence.The first lighthouse at Cape Tryon was built in 1905, replacing an earlier light established in 1865. The original structure was a wooden building with a red iron lantern. In 1962, the current square, pyramidal tower was constructed. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but it remains an important cultural landmark.Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The area is particularly beautiful at sunset, offering stunning photographic opportunities. The lighthouse is also thought to be the inspiration for the Four Winds Light in Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel, *Anne's House of Dreams*.
