To reach Rideau Canal, Locks 1 - 8 in Ottawa from Edmonton Capital Region by car, first take AB-2 South to Calgary. From Calgary, merge onto Trans-Canada Highway 1 East. Follow the Trans-Canada for approximately 2,500 kilometers. As you approach Ottawa, take the exit toward ON-416 South. Continue on ON-416 until it merges with ON-401 East. Take exit 138 for ON-416 S toward Ottawa. Merge onto ON-416 South and then take exit 67 for Hunt Club Road. Follow Hunt Club Road to the city center. Continue straight to reach the Byward Market area, where you will find the Rideau Canal. There may be tolls on certain routes, so check for any applicable fees.

To get to Rideau Canal, Locks 1 - 8 by public transport, you can take a flight from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW). Once in Ottawa, take the OC Transpo bus number 97 or 96 from the airport to downtown Ottawa (approximately 30-40 minutes). After arriving at the downtown terminal, transfer to bus number 5 towards the Byward Market. The Rideau Canal is a short walk away from the bus stop. Make sure to purchase an OC Transpo day pass for convenient travel throughout the day; it costs around CAD 10.75.
