Selkirk Park: A Riverside Retreat

Selkirk Park, located in the city of Selkirk, Manitoba, is a versatile destination offering a range of activities and attractions along the Red River. Originally established as Red River Park, it quickly became a popular summer resort in the early 20th century, drawing crowds from Winnipeg and surrounding areas via the Winnipeg, Selkirk and Lake Winnipeg Railway. In its heyday, Selkirk Park featured a pavilion for dances and dining, attracting visitors with its Starlight Express service. Although the original pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1936 and not rebuilt, the park has seen numerous improvements over the years, including the addition of picnic areas, playgrounds, and a swimming pool.
