Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
To reach Churchill Falls by car, start from the capital city of St. John's. Head west on the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) until you reach the town of Gander. From Gander, take Route 320 north, which will lead you to the town of Grand Falls-Windsor. Continue on Route 1 until you reach the junction to Route 390 in Bishop's Falls. Follow Route 390 until you reach the junction with Route 2. Take Route 2 north towards the town of Wabush. After Wabush, continue on Route 500, which will take you directly to Churchill Falls. The drive will take approximately 10-12 hours, so plan for rest stops and fuel along the way.
Public Transportation
If traveling by public transportation, you can take a bus from St. John's to Gander operated by DRL Coachlines. From Gander, you will need to arrange a taxi or a local shuttle service to take you to Churchill Falls, as there are no direct bus routes. The taxi fare can vary, so it's advisable to confirm the cost ahead of time. The total travel time may exceed 15 hours due to transfers and waiting times, so make sure to plan accordingly.
Air Travel
For those interested in a quicker route, consider flying to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, which is the nearest major airport. From the airport, you can rent a car or take a local taxi to Churchill Falls, which is about a 2-hour drive (approximately 145 km). Make sure to book your flights in advance, and keep in mind that car rentals may have additional costs.
