Journey Behind the Falls: An Immersive Niagara Experience

Journey Behind the Falls is a unique attraction that allows visitors to experience the immense power and beauty of Niagara Falls from a perspective like no other. Located at the Table Rock Welcome Centre, beside the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, this year-round attraction invites you to descend deep into the Niagara Gorge. The adventure begins with an elevator ride that takes you 125 feet down through the bedrock. As you walk through the 130-year-old tunnels, you'll hear and feel the thunderous vibrations of the Horseshoe Falls. The tunnels lead to cave-like portals cut straight through the rock, offering breathtaking views of the water cascading down. Formerly known as the "Scenic Tunnels" until the 1990s, Journey Behind the Falls has a rich history dating back to 1832 when the first staircase was constructed down into the Niagara Gorge. Over the years, the attraction has evolved, with tunnels being extended and improved to provide visitors with the best possible experience. At the end of the tunnels, you'll reach the observation deck at the foot of the falls. Here, you can witness one-fifth of the world's fresh water crashing down into the basin below. During the summer months, over 2,800 cubic meters of water thunders over the brink every second, traveling at 65 kilometers per hour. A souvenir biodegradable rain poncho is provided to protect you from the mist. The attraction showcases the history of the falls, from their formation to their rise as a global tourism destination. Informative posters are placed throughout the tunnels, providing insights into the history and evolution of the attraction.
