Car
If you are driving from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, take Route 500 North towards the town of Goose Bay. Continue on Route 500 until you reach the junction with Route 520. Turn left onto Route 520 and follow it until you reach the Trans-Labrador Highway (Route 510). Head north on Route 510, passing through the small communities of Sheshatshiu and North West River. Continue following Route 510 until you reach the town of Rigolet. From Rigolet, you will need to take a boat service to Nachvak Fiord. Ensure you check local boat schedules and book in advance, as services may vary. The boat trip will take you directly to the fjord, offering stunning views along the way.
Public Transportation
Start your journey by taking a bus from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to Rigolet. You can check for available bus services like the Labrador Transportation Association. Once you arrive in Rigolet, you will need to arrange for a local boat service to Nachvak Fiord. It is advisable to contact local tour operators or check community boards for boat schedules and availability, as these services may not operate daily. Make sure to factor in the cost of the bus fare and the boat ride in your travel budget.
Hiking
For the adventurous traveler, if you are already in Rigolet and prefer a more rugged approach, there are hiking trails that can lead to Nachvak Fiord. However, this option is only recommended for experienced hikers due to the challenging terrain and lack of marked paths. Ensure you are well-equipped with proper hiking gear, sufficient food, and water. It is crucial to inform someone of your hiking plans and expected return time. This method does not incur transportation costs, but be prepared for a physically demanding trek.
