Overview

KIN Vineyards stands as a game-changer for Ontario's wine region, located just outside Carp in the Ottawa Valley. Founded in 2012, the winery has evolved from a five-acre hybrid vineyard into a sophisticated operation focused on premium Burgundian varieties. The estate now encompasses 47 acres, with 10 dedicated to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir cultivation, establishing itself as the northernmost winery in Canada producing vinifera grapes of this caliber.

Terroir and Vineyard Character

The Carp Ridge Vineyard occupies gently rolling, southwest-facing slopes positioned on glacial till soils overlaying the grey limestone base of the Ottawa Formation. This geological foundation imparts a distinct terroir that winemaker Brian Hamilton believes creates a protective microclimate allowing grapes to thrive despite the region's continental climate challenges, including extreme winter temperatures and late spring frosts. The vineyard's location along the Carp Ridge, adjoined by the Carp River, further contributes to its unique personality and potential to produce world-class Burgundian-style wines.

Wine Portfolio

KIN's signature offerings include the Carp Ridge Chardonnay and Carp Ridge Pinot Noir, both receiving critical acclaim. The Chardonnays showcase aromatic complexity with stone fruit, minerality, and toasty oak notes from French oak aging. The Pinot Noirs display elegant profiles with red berry fruit, floral accents, and chalky tannins characteristic of cool-climate expressions. The winery also produces experimental varieties including Marquette and sources select wines from Niagara, clearly labeled to maintain transparency with consumers. Wines have earned scores ranging from 90 to 93 points from professional reviewers.

Visitor Experience

The tasting room welcomes guests to experience wines in a relaxed, scenic setting among the vineyards. Visitors can enjoy wine flights, food pairings including grilled mushroom flatbread and braised beef tacos, and guided vineyard tours. The atmosphere combines casual comfort with elegant ambiance, featuring Muskoka chairs and wine barrel tables with umbrellas positioned throughout the vineyard.
