Baldy Mountain, reaching 832 meters (2,730 feet), proudly holds the title of Manitoba's highest peak. Situated within Duck Mountain Provincial Park, about 60 kilometers northwest of Dauphin, it's a popular destination for those seeking scenic views and a touch of wilderness.The mountain itself was formed by glacial erosion during the last ice age, leaving behind thick deposits of glacial till. These deposits sit atop cretaceous shale that is over 70 million years old. As part of the Manitoba Escarpment, Baldy Mountain offers a distinct change in elevation from the surrounding prairies.At the summit, visitors can climb a 12-meter observation tower for panoramic views of the surrounding spruce and aspen forest. The tower provides views of the Duck Mountains and the valley below. The area also features a 3-kilometer hiking trail with interpretive signs detailing the region's history, including the fur trade, early inhabitants, and the first ranger's cabin. The trail passes by an old cabin, stables, and a small pond with a beaver lodge.Baldy Mountain is a place of historical and cultural significance. It served as a sacred gathering place for Indigenous communities and as a landmark for early explorers and traders. Today, it continues to draw visitors seeking a connection with nature and a glimpse into Manitoba's past.

    From Grandview, Manitoba, follow Provincial Road 366 north for approximately 32 km (20 miles). The road leads directly to the summit of Baldy Mountain, where you'll find the parking area, observation tower, and trailhead. There are no tolls or mandatory access fees.
