It was once home to the New Toronto Filtration Plant, later converted to the Lakeshore Pumping Station. Although the plant was removed in 2000, a monument remains as a reminder of the site's history. Today, the park is undergoing maintenance work to protect against shoreline erosion, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Despite the ongoing construction, large portions of the park remain open to the public.
