Discover more about Green Gables Heritage Place

Green Gables Heritage Place invites visitors to experience the magic of 'Anne of Green Gables,' one of Canada's most beloved literary works. This meticulously preserved 19th-century farmstead, nestled in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, served as the inspiration for Lucy Maud Montgomery's timeless tale of Anne Shirley, the spirited red-haired orphan. Originally owned by cousins of Montgomery's grandfather, the MacNeill family, the farm dates back to the 1830s. While Montgomery never lived at Green Gables, she spent time exploring the surrounding woodlands and fields, which sparked her imagination and provided the setting for her novel. Today, visitors can tour the Green Gables house, which has been restored to reflect a typical farmhouse of the late Victorian period, mirroring both the novel's setting and the era. Each room is named after a character from the novel. Explore the grounds, including the Haunted Wood and Lover's Lane trails, which also inspired Montgomery. The site also features a modern visitor center with exhibits about Montgomery's life and works, a gift shop, and a café. Costumed staff, including an 'Anne Shirley' character, are on-site during July and August, offering bilingual interpretive activities. Green Gables Heritage Place is more than just a museum; it's a chance to step into a world of imagination, connect with a beloved story, and experience the beauty of Prince Edward Island's landscape.
