Discover more about Montmorency Falls

Montmorency Falls, located just 15 minutes from Old Québec, is a natural wonder where the Montmorency River plunges over a cliff, creating a spectacular cascade. Named by Samuel de Champlain in 1613 in honor of the Duke of Montmorency , the falls are actually comprised of three separate waterfalls. Reaching a height of 83 meters (272 feet), they are taller than the famed Niagara Falls. The surrounding Parc de la Chute-Montmorency offers various activities and viewpoints. Ride the cable car to the top for panoramic views, or walk across the suspension bridge for a thrilling perspective. For the adventurous, the park offers a zip line and via ferrata. History buffs can explore remnants of British military installations from the 1759 battle. The park is open year-round, with each season offering a unique experience. In the summer, enjoy hiking, biking, and picnicking. In winter, witness the frozen falls and try snowshoeing or ice climbing. The Manoir Montmorency, located at the top of the cliff, houses an interpretation center, gift shop, and restaurant. The current building is a replica of the original, which had been built in 1780 by Governor Frederick Haldimand and later burned down in 1993. The site has a rich history, having been the location of the Battle of Montmorency during the Seven Years’ War. Legend says that a young woman, heartbroken after her fiancé's death in battle, threw herself over the falls in her wedding gown, and some claim to see her white figure to this day. Accessibility is a priority at Montmorency Falls, with boardwalks and ramps providing access for those with mobility impairments.
