Discover more about Artillery Park

Artillery Park, nestled within the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site, offers a captivating journey through centuries of military and social history. Originally established by the French in the 17th and 18th centuries as a defensive stronghold, its strategic location overlooking the Saint-Charles River and the plateau west of Québec City made it a crucial point for the city's security. Over time, the site transformed into a garrison, serving as the headquarters for the British Royal Artillery Regiment until the late 19th century. Later, it housed an ammunition factory that produced cartridges for the Canadian Army until the 1960s, playing a significant role during both World Wars. Today, visitors can explore three fully restored historical buildings: the Arsenal Foundry, the Dauphine Redoubt, and the Officers' Quarters. The Arsenal Foundry features a multimedia presentation and a giant scale model of Québec City as it appeared in 1808. The Dauphine Redoubt, dating back to 1712, offers a glimpse into the lives of French, British, and Canadian soldiers through restored quarters, a period kitchen, and interactive exhibits. The Officers' Quarters showcases the refined life of a British officer and his family in the 1830s. Artillery Park provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich military and social history of Québec City, with guided tours and costumed characters bringing the past to life.
