Constructed in 1930 during the Great Depression as a public relief project, the bridge provided employment for 700 men. It stands as Saskatchewan's first war memorial, dedicated to the province's soldiers who died in World War I.Designed in the Art Deco style by Puntin, O'Leary and Coxall, with engineering by Claude A.P. Turner, the bridge showcases unique architectural elements. Egyptian motifs, including obelisk-like entry towers adorned with portraits of Queen Victoria, bison head lamp posts, and terracotta balusters decorated with lotus flowers and papyrus plants, add to its distinctive character. The bridge stretches 256 meters (840 feet) in length, crossing the Wascana Creek.The Albert Memorial Bridge is known as the longest bridge spanning the shortest body of water in the world. The bridge acts as a gateway to Wascana Park, the Old Lakeview area, and downtown Regina.
