Holy Rosary Cathedral: A Testament to Faith

Holy Rosary Cathedral, located in the Cathedral neighborhood of Regina, Saskatchewan, is more than just a place of worship; it's a landmark that embodies the city's history and the enduring spirit of its Catholic community. Construction began in 1912, and the cathedral was completed in 1917, designed by Montreal architect Joseph Fortin in the Romanesque Revival style, drawing inspiration from churches in northern France. The building's exterior is characterized by yellow brick and limestone accents, with two prominent spires reaching towards the sky.Inside, the cathedral is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows, the work of French artisan André Rault, installed in 1951. The windows depict scenes of Mary's Sorrows and Mary's Joys, and three large rose windows feature the names of Mary's ancestors. A large ceramic mural in the apse, created by Saskatchewan artist Lorraine Malach, depicts the Five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. The McGuigan Organ, built by Casavant Frères, is one of the finest cathedral organs in Canada, containing over 3,100 pipes.The cathedral has undergone several renovations throughout its history, including significant work after a fire in 1976. Today, Holy Rosary Cathedral continues to serve as the mother church of the Archdiocese of Regina, welcoming visitors and parishioners alike.
