Discover more about Zone portuaire de Chicoutimi

The Zone Portuaire de Chicoutimi, a vibrant hub since 1992, stands as the largest urban park in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Situated in downtown Chicoutimi along the Saguenay River, this area has evolved into a multifaceted recreational and cultural complex. Originally the site of a bustling port, the area was transformed into a public park in 1992 to celebrate Chicoutimi's 150th anniversary. The port's history is tied to businessman Julien-Édouard-Alfred Dubuc, who initiated major works to modernize the Upper Saguenay region, spurred by the opening of the Arvida aluminum plant in 1926. During World War II, the area was used as a training camp, Camp Tremblay, for conscripted soldiers. Today, visitors can enjoy a range of activities. A wooden boardwalk stretches for a kilometer along the Saguenay River, offering picturesque views. Paved paths accommodate cyclists and inline skaters. In the summer, children can enjoy the splash pad. The Zone Portuaire also hosts major cultural, social, and sporting events throughout the year. Other amenities include a restaurant, ice cream shop, and access to public restrooms. Keep an eye out for local art installations scattered throughout the park.
