Discover more about Point Clark Lighthouse National Historic Site

The Point Clark Lighthouse National Historic Site offers a glimpse into maritime history on the shores of Lake Huron. Built between 1855 and 1859, the lighthouse is one of six majestic 'Imperial Towers' constructed on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. These towers were commissioned by the Department of Public Works to guide mariners through the Great Lakes. The Point Clark Lighthouse warns sailors of a shoal about three kilometers offshore. The 87-foot tower is made of limestone from nearby Inverhuron and features 114 steps to the top. The tower is topped with a 12-sided lantern framed in cast iron, capped with a domed roof. Bronze lion heads at each angle of the eaves direct rainwater away from the tower. Visitors can climb the tower and visit the museum in the lightkeeper's dwelling. The museum showcases the history of the lighthouse and the lives of its keepers. From the top of the lighthouse, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Huron and the surrounding area. The site is open seasonally, from late June to Labour Day.
