Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Maiduguri, Borno State. Head northwest on Baga Road (R490) for about 12 km. Continue straight to remain on R490 until you reach the intersection with R489, where you will turn left. Follow R489 for approximately 30 km, and you will see the entrance to Chad Basin National Park on your right. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as there are few petrol stations on this route.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Maiduguri, head to the main bus terminal, where you can find shared taxis or buses heading to Chad Basin National Park. Look for a vehicle with signage indicating 'Chad Basin' or 'Borno National Park'. The journey may take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. The fare is typically around 1,500 NGN. Upon arrival at the park entrance, you may need to hire a local guide for further exploration.
Motorbike Taxi
For a quicker option, consider taking a motorbike taxi (locally known as 'okada') from Maiduguri. Negotiate a price before starting your journey; fares typically range from 2,000 to 3,000 NGN depending on your starting point. The ride will take around 1 hour. Ensure that the driver knows the park's location and agrees to drop you at the entrance.
