Car
To reach O'Higgins Glacier by car, start from the town of Puerto Tranquilo, located on the shores of General Carrera Lake. From Puerto Tranquilo, take Route 7 (Carretera Austral) heading south towards the town of O'Higgins. The drive takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Upon reaching O'Higgins, follow signs towards the glacier viewpoint. Note that the road can be rough and may require a 4x4 vehicle, especially during the winter months when conditions can be challenging.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Coyhaique to Puerto Tranquilo, which operates daily. The journey takes about 4-5 hours. Once in Puerto Tranquilo, you can hire a taxi or join a local tour to O'Higgins Glacier. These tours often include transport directly to the glacier viewpoint. It's advisable to book in advance, especially during the tourist season, and expect to pay around CLP 30,000 to 50,000 for the tour, depending on the inclusions.
Boat
