Getting There

Car

If you are traveling by car, head south on Route 5 (Panamericana) from either La Serena or Coquimbo. Continue on Route 5 for about 40 kilometers until you reach the exit for Route 5-CH toward Ovalle/Coquimbo. Follow the signs for Route 5-CH, and after approximately 15 kilometers, take the exit toward La Higuera. From there, follow the signs to the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve. The entrance to the reserve is well-marked.
Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Coquimbo to La Higuera. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey typically takes about 1-1.5 hours. Once you arrive at La Higuera, you will need to either walk or take a taxi to the entrance of the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve, which is about 10 kilometers away. Ensure the taxi is pre-arranged as local transportation options may be limited.
Walking from La Higuera

If you prefer to walk from La Higuera to the reserve, it's a scenic 10-kilometer hike. The route is straightforward, following the main road towards the coast. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of water, as the walk can take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
