Getting There

• Car

  To reach Elqui River by car, start your journey from La Serena or Coquimbo. If you are in La Serena, take Route 41 towards Vicuña. Continue on this road for approximately 60 kilometers. You will pass through the picturesque towns of La Florida and Vicuña. Once in Vicuña, follow the signs for the Elqui Valley. The river is easily accessible from various points along the valley, particularly around Pisco Elqui, where you can find scenic spots to enjoy the views.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from La Serena to Vicuña. Bus companies such as Turbus and Buses JAC operate regular services. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs around 3,000-5,000 CLP (Chilean Pesos). Once you arrive in Vicuña, you can either walk or take a taxi to the Elqui River area. Taxis are generally available near the bus terminal, and the fare to the river will depend on your exact destination but expect to pay around 3,000-5,000 CLP.

• Bicycle

  For adventurous travelers, biking to Elqui River is an option. Rent a bicycle in La Serena or Vicuña and follow Route 41. The ride offers stunning views but can be physically demanding. Ensure you have sufficient water and snacks for the journey, which is approximately 60 kilometers from La Serena to Vicuña, and then another 20 kilometers to reach the river's most scenic spots. The total biking time may take around 4-5 hours.
