Nahuel Huapi National Park, established in 1934, is Argentina's first and second-largest national park, protecting a vast area of the northern Patagonian Andes. The park spans 7,050 square kilometers (2,720 sq mi) and encompasses diverse ecosystems, from the high Andean peaks to the Patagonian steppe and Valdivian temperate rainforest. The park's centerpiece is the expansive Nahuel Huapi Lake, a 544-square-kilometer (210 sq mi) glacial lake known for its deep blue waters, fjords, and islands. The name 'Nahuel Huapi' comes from the Mapudungun language, where 'nahuel' means 'puma' and 'huapi' means 'island'. The lake sits at the foot of the Andes, surrounded by mountains, forests, and the charming towns of Bariloche, Villa La Angostura, and San Martín de los Andes.Visitors can explore the park's stunning landscapes through various activities, including hiking, camping, kayaking, and skiing.
