Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Puerto Varas, which is approximately 100 km away from the base of Tronador. Head south on Route 225, following the signs to Ensenada. After about 30 km, turn left onto Route 225-CH, which will lead you towards the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Continue for another 30 km, and then take a right onto a gravel road that leads to the park entrance. Note that there is a park entrance fee of approximately CLP 5,000 per person. Once inside, follow the signs toward Tronador, which will take you deeper into the park.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Puerto Varas to Ensenada. Buses leave regularly from the central bus terminal and the fare is around CLP 3,000. Once in Ensenada, you will need to take a taxi or arrange a transfer to the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park entrance, which is about 15 km away. The taxi fare should be approximately CLP 10,000 to CLP 15,000. After entering the park, you can either hike or rent a vehicle to reach Tronador. The park offers guided tours that can be booked on-site, typically costing around CLP 20,000 per person.
Guided Tour
Another comfortable option is to book a guided tour from Puerto Varas. Many local companies offer day trips that include transportation, park entrance fees, and a guide. This option generally costs between CLP 50,000 to CLP 80,000 per person, depending on the inclusions. The tour will take you directly to Tronador and often includes stops at various scenic viewpoints along the way.
