This second bridge was needed because by 1982, the original bridge was in disrepair due to heavy traffic and the aftereffects of the 1960 earthquake. The earthquake, which measured 9.5 on the Richter scale, caused damage to the bridge's access points, though the main structure survived. Today, one bridge carries traffic into Las Ánimas, and the other carries traffic into Valdivia.Walking across Puente Calle-Calle provides panoramic views of the Calle-Calle River, the city, and the surrounding natural beauty.
