Ascensor Cordillera: A Ride Through Valparaíso's History

Ascensor Cordillera, one of Valparaíso's iconic funiculars, provides a vital link between the lower city (el plan) and the upper reaches of Cerro Cordillera. Opened in 1886, it was the second funicular to be built in Valparaíso, highlighting the importance of the port and its maritime commerce at the end of the 19th century. The original ascensor was destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in 1894.The Ascensor Cordillera is more than just a mode of transport; it's a journey through history. It´s been recently renovated, re-opening on January 2019 after a period of restoration.
