Getting There

  • Car Hire

    The most convenient way to reach Swell Lodge from the Christmas Island Airport or other locations on the island is by hiring a car. Several car hire companies operate on Christmas Island, offering both standard cars and 4WD vehicles. Pre-booking is essential due to limited availability. From the airport, follow the main road towards Settlement, then continue west towards the National Park. Swell Lodge is located near Martin Point. Be aware that road conditions can vary, especially after heavy rain, and it's important to drive carefully and be mindful of wildlife, especially during the red crab migration. Car hire rates vary, but expect to pay around AUD 50-80 per day.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available on Christmas Island, but pre-booking is highly recommended due to limited service. Contact Chris Carr of Crabby Transport at +61 (0) 439 215 644. to arrange a pick-up from the airport or other locations. A taxi from the airport to Swell Lodge will cost approximately AUD 40-60. Keep in mind that taxi service is limited on weekday evenings (except Monday) and after midday on weekends.
