Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Bus
Start by heading to the nearest bus stop in the city center, such as the one at Plaza de la Aduana. Look for a bus heading towards 'Barú'. Buses leave regularly, so you shouldn't have to wait long. The bus will take you towards Barú Island, and the journey will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Make sure to tell the driver you are going to Playa Puntilla so he can let you off at the right stop.
Bicycle
If you prefer a more active route, you can rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in the Old City. Head out toward the Avenida San Martin, following the coastline. Continue along the road until you reach the entrance to Barú. The total ride will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach the entrance to Barú, follow the signs toward Playa Puntilla, which is a short ride from there.
Taxi/Shared Ride
If you're looking for convenience, you can take a taxi or use a rideshare app. Request a ride to 'Playa Puntilla' or 'Via Barú'. The driver will navigate you through the city and along the road to Barú. This option is faster, taking around 25-30 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to agree on the fare beforehand if you're using a taxi.
Walking
Walking to Playa Puntilla is not feasible due to the distance, but if you are nearby in the Barú area, you can follow the coastal paths that lead to the beach. Look for signs that direct you to Playa Puntilla once you are in the vicinity of Barú.
