Car
If you are traveling by car within the Insular Region, start your journey in the closest major city, which is Cartagena. From Cartagena, head towards the coast road (Carrera 1). Follow the coastal road southwards until you reach the town of Tolú. This drive will take approximately 4 hours. Once in Tolú, park your car at a designated parking area near the beach. You will need to transfer to a boat to reach Islas de San Bernardo.
Public Transportation
From Cartagena, you can take a bus to Tolú. Head to the Terminal de Transportes de Cartagena and purchase a ticket to Tolú. The journey takes about 5 hours. Once you arrive in Tolú, you can find local boats at the beach that offer transport to Islas de San Bernardo. Ensure you check the boat schedules in advance, as they can vary. The boat ride to the islands typically takes about 30-45 minutes and may cost around 30,000 to 50,000 COP (Colombian Pesos).
Boat Transfer
Once you reach Tolú, after parking your car or disembarking from your bus, locate the small boat operators on the beach. Look for signs or ask locals for the best boat service to Islas de San Bernardo. Boats generally leave in the morning and early afternoon, so plan accordingly. The cost for the boat ride is approximately 30,000 to 50,000 COP per person. Make sure to confirm the return schedule as well.
