Museo Taminango: A Journey into Nariño's Artisan Soul

Museo Taminango offers an immersive experience into the heart of Nariño's cultural identity, celebrated through its diverse artisan traditions. The museum is located in the Casona Taminango, a distinguished colonial house dating back to the 17th century. Declared a national monument in 1971, the Casona itself is an architectural gem, showcasing traditional construction techniques. Inside, the museum displays a collection of over 800 artisanal pieces, many rescued from extinction, reflecting the skills passed down through generations. Exhibits feature the renowned Barniz de Pasto (a unique type of lacquer), intricate wood carvings, textiles woven from wool and paja toquilla (a type of straw), and crafts made from cabuya (a natural fiber).
